Adidas has been popular among tennis players due to its reputation for producing high-quality sportswear and footwear.  The brand's focus on innovation, performance, and style has made it a preferred choice for athletes. Adidas started gaining prominence in tennis in the late 1960s and 1970s, with endorsements from notable players like Stan Smith and Ilie Năstase. The brand's tennis shoes, in particular, became iconic and have continued to be a staple in the sport's fashion and performance scenes. As the Canadian Davis Cup Team battles Serbia in Belgrade in the World Group Semi Final , we look back at the Americas Group I ties Canada played on it's way to the current state of affairs. In March of 2009, Canadian team of Frank Dancvic , Frederic Niemeyer and Daniel Nestor ( Milos Raonic as the alternate) faced Ecuador (including the Lapentti brothers, Nicolas and Giovanni ) at the indoor facility at the Rexall Centre in Toronto in the Americas Zone I play-off tie. Canada lead 2-1 heading into the Sunday matches and should never have lost, but somehow did, in the fourth and deciding rubber which saw Dancevic waste two match points and eventually lose to the veteran Nicolas Lappentti. Niemeyer had a chance to give his team the win in the 5th and final rubber but ended up losing to the younger Lappenti brother, Giovanni, in a hard-fought 4- set battle.  Sunday results Nicolas LAPENTTI (#1 ECU) def. The highlight of our Labour Day trip to the NYC came on Monday night, after hours of rain delays, in the form on the Round of 16 match between Richard Gasquet and Milos Raonic on Court 17. Raonic led two sets to one, was up a break in the fourth set and later had a match point in the tiebreak, but the match ended up going the distance before Gasquet won 6-7 (4), 7-6 (4), 2-6, 7-6 (9), 7-5. Nova Djokovic (in UNIQLO) vs Joao Sousa , 6-0 6-2 6-2. Sadly, this was the only match we got to see while in NYC and my camera battery died soon after the warm up, so not too much variety here. I guess that was a message from the Tennis Gods to put the camera down, sit back and enjoy the beauty of Novak's game since the result was never in doubt. Photos from the Ana Ivanovic vs Christina McHale (both sponsored by adidas ) 3rd Round US Open match. Ivanovic won 4-6 7-5 6-4 and moved on to the next round to face Vikroria Azarenka. That match was scheduled on Monday, our last day at the Open, but due to the lenghty rain delay ended up being played the following day. As a result, these are the only photos of Ana we have.

Welcome to the US Open Arthur Ashe Stadium, view from Armstrong The Unisphere of Flushing Meadows Park

Our first session on Arthur Ashe Stadium turned out to be quite an experience as we got to experience a 5-set match under the lights ( Lleyton Hewitt upset Juan Martin del Potro 6-4 5-7 3-6 7-6(2) 6-1). Just prior to that we accidentally found ourselves in the stands of Court 7 where Evgeny Donskoy was on his way to defeating Peter Gojowczyk , also in 5 sets (6-4 5-7 3-6 7-6(2) 6-1). "Watch Pete Sampras play tennis live." has been very near the top of my bucket list for a very  long time. Unfortunately, he had retired by the time I was in a position to attend tennis tournaments. That dream finally came true last Friday when I was fortunate enough to watch the exhibition match between Pistol Pete and James Blake (officiated in part by Marion Bartoli , the 2013 Wimbledon Champion), part of the ATP Legends Tour , following the quarter final match of the Rogers Cup between Serena Williams and Magdalena Rybarikova . The experience was made possible thanks to the Rogers Cup and the #RogersCup10k twitter contest as well as Three Works Snacks & Chips (we have previously written about them, here and here ) who hosted all the winners in their suite, complete with amazing food, drinks and excellent company of fellow tennis fans. Also, we did not leave the suite empty handed as each guest was given a bag full of Three Works goodies including Suga...

Sunday was the last day of the Qualifying Rounds here at the Rogers Cup in Toronto and many of the players already in the Main Draw took to to the courts for practices. I was able to catch Italy's Franchesca Schiavone , Canada's Eugenie (Genie) Bouchard and Poland's Radwanska Sisters (Agnieszka and Urszula) in action. Here are a few shots of today's action.
