Marion Bartoli Retires from Tennis

Image
Marion Bartoli , the 2013 Wimbledon Champion , has decided to call it a career following a R2 exit at the Western & Souther Open in Cincinnati on Wednesday. "You know, everyone will remember my Wimbledon title," she said. "No one will remember the last match I played here. It's been a tough decision to take. I don't take this easily. I mean, I've been a tennis player for a long time and I had a chance to make my biggest dream a reality. I felt I really, really pushed through the ultimate limits to make it happen. But now I just can't do it anymore." Here's a quick photo-tribute of photos of Marion I've taken over the years. Serve to Win: The 14-Day Gluten-Free Plan for Physical and Mental Excellence

Image
In 2011, Novak Djokovic had what sportswriters called the greatest single season ever by a professional tennis player: He won ten titles, three Grand Slams, and forty-three consecutive matches. Remarkably, less than two years earlier, this champion could barely complete a tournament. How did a player once plagued by aches, breathing difficulties, and injuries on the court suddenly become the #1 ranked tennis player in the world? The answer is astonishing: He changed what he ate. Release Date: Aug 20 2013 In Serve to Win , Djokovic recounts how he survived the bombing of Belgrade, Serbia, rising from a war-torn childhood to the top tier of his sport. Then he reveals the diet that transformed his health and pushed him to the pinnacle. While Djokovic loved and craved bread and pasta, and especially the pizza at his family’s restaurant, his body simply couldn’t process wheat. Eliminating gluten—the protein found in wheat—made him feel instantly better, lighter, clearer...

Andy Roddick Set to Retire following the 2012 US Open

I'm not going to pretend I've been a huge fan of either Andy's game or antics, but the GOAT of post-match pressers sure will be missed. Here are a few of his finest performances in the press room and during the on-court interviews.

Rogers Cup 2012: It's ON!

Image
The ATP is back in Toronto as the qualifying round of the Rogers Cup kicked off at York University's Rexall Centre. The big draw board now features both Toronto and Montreal latddters with super-sized photos of last year's champions, Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams. Photo: MegiMK The Canadian Champions Grandstand (this year bearing Milos Raonic's name) has also been glammed up in a big way. Now it has it's own announcer, music during changeovers and a covered lounge/bar area atop the North stand. Also, the court now features the Hawkeye review system. Two thumbs up for the new and much improved Grandstand experience. Photo: MegiMK It's a shame the Rogers Cup fans won't get to see all of the big names (Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal come to mind) this year but in a long run that should perhaps for a more exciting event. So, welcome to Toronto all of you who cared to show up. Make it a good one!

Add the Australian Open, US Open and the fore-mentioned Wimbledon crown to the mix for a total of 10 tournaments won. See, that's all you need to become a World #1. Easy, right? Well, not so much. Congrats Nole, you sure earned i...

For now, here's a photo from last Saturday's ceremony plus a quick video summary by ET Canada. Full broadcast will be aired on Global, October 23 . Photo: Reuters Photos

Things I've Learned About The Future of Canadian Tennis (So I'm Told)

Image
Things I've learned about Steven Diez 's game at the Tevlin Futures semi final. A few lose notes on the match, or rather, on Steven Diez's game. I've seen him play a few times before but never closely enough to form an actual opinion or anything close to it, for that matter. This time I actually paid attention and noticed a few things. * He moves really well, has decent court coverage which considering the fact he's not very tall, is definitely a great benefit. * An OK first serve but the second is a bit of a mess. He also seems to go for too much on it way too often * Boombastic and efficient forehand, runs around backhand a lot * Weirdest drop shot technique, tried it a few times but not with the best results but managed to draw an error once or twice * Good at constructing a point and moving the opponent but missed easy shots to an open court way too often. He's controlling majority of the rallies just to eventually dump the easiest shot in the ne...
