It's official, kittens! ATP just announced Novak Djokovic will finish as the No. 1 player in the year-end South African Airways 2011 ATP Rankings and will be officially crowned at a special trophy presentation at the season-ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London.
Nole, the first Serbian man to do so, became #1 on July 4 when he advanced to the Wimbledon Final, beating Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and eventually clinching his dream title with a win over Rafa Nadal two days later.
With his fagnificent 64-3 record this season, he has won a record-breaking number of five ATP World Tour Masters 1000 titles in one season (in Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid, Rome and Montreal) as well as ATP500 in Dubai and ATP250 in Belgrade. Add the Australian Open, US Open and the fore-mentioned Wimbledon crown to the mix for a total of 10 tournaments won. See, that's all you need to become a World #1. Easy, right? Well, not so much.
Congrats Nole, you sure earned it! Mad props!
