Tennis Resort Review: Las Brisas Huatulco, Mexico

Image
Since it's already August and flight from Toronto to Huatulco resume in about two months  from now, I thought I'd recycle the review of one of my favourite tennis resorts in Mexico in case anyone is looking for some tennis trip ideas. The Huatulco area is very peaceful, focused heavily on eco-tourism, with just a handful of hotels. Las Brisas Huatulco features 3 beaches open for swimming. Unlike in Puerto Vallarta or Cancun, there are no beach vendors anywhere in sight so you're guaranteed to be able to relax while soaking in the sun. Also, you won't meet any timeshare representatives at the airport. Photos (c) MegiMK What more do you need for a perfect vacation? You say tennis courts? Las Brisas Huatulco has you covered! Rogers Cup 2012: The Paulo Experience

Image
The saying goes "The history likes to repeat itself" and, unfortunately, for Paul-Henri Mathieu today's match vs Flavio Cipolla was a harsh reminder of that cliche. Just like two years ago, he lost the match after having at least one break's lead in the final set. Paulo started the match well, once again paining the lines with good accuracy.Due to a slight slippage in the later parts of the set found himself staring at Cipolla serving at  5-4. He managed to break though and eventually take it 7-5. Everything was going according to the plan, until the wind picked up significantly at the begining of set number two. Since Paul-Henri's game's strength is based on flat ball and pace, the change in weather threw him off significantly and the numerous unforced errors followed. Result? Set to Cipolla, 6-3. Final set starter well for PHM, a break and a few minutes laterhe was 3-1 up and looking comfortable. And that's when errors started to pour down for no parti...

Rogers Cup 2012 in Photos: Paul-Henri Mathieu

Image
Another year, another shot at watching Paul-Henri Mathieu in the Qualifying turnament at the Rogers Cup. It's such a tremendus shame to see a player with Paulo's talent and a game as technically pure and sound as they come being slowwed down by injuries. Many times over. His today's match vs USA's Michael Russel featured a line painting job Picasso wound be proud off. Paulo could hardly miss going for the lines from all angles and hitting winners from all over the court. The crowd, predominately in th Frenchman's corner, had a lot to cheer for in the relatively straight forward 6-3, 6-2 win. Here's to another good match tomorrow. I'll leave you with a few photos for now. You're welcome, thank you and good night! /drops the mic/  All Photos by MegiMK. More after the jump.

Rogers Cup 2012: It's ON!

Image
The ATP is back in Toronto as the qualifying round of the Rogers Cup kicked off at York University's Rexall Centre. The big draw board now features both Toronto and Montreal latddters with super-sized photos of last year's champions, Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams. Photo: MegiMK The Canadian Champions Grandstand (this year bearing Milos Raonic's name) has also been glammed up in a big way. Now it has it's own announcer, music during changeovers and a covered lounge/bar area atop the North stand. Also, the court now features the Hawkeye review system. Two thumbs up for the new and much improved Grandstand experience. Photo: MegiMK It's a shame the Rogers Cup fans won't get to see all of the big names (Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal come to mind) this year but in a long run that should perhaps for a more exciting event. So, welcome to Toronto all of you who cared to show up. Make it a good one!

Nole's Olympic UNIQLO Kit

Image
If you're still cringing thinking back to Novak Djokovic's Beijing Olympics getup (especially the plain black and white adidas t-shirt that had eventually 'Srbija' printed on the back), you must be delighted with the two kits UNIQLO has put together for him for London 2012. So am I. AFP Photo AFP Photo

Ana Ivanovic's London Olympics Adidas Kit

Image
Ana Ivanovic sans dress (take your minds out of the gutter, please) but in a 2-piece kit has been a rare sight in the last several years. I don't recall her wearing one since 2008, correct me if I'm wrong.  But then came the Olympics where Ana showed up in white separates with some accents and the Serbian team emblem. Simple and very classy. But what is an outfit without shoes, right? Ana opted to the pink/red  adidas barricades 7.0 Core Energy. Source: Clive Brunskill/Getty Images Europe

And so we meet again, Ricardo Garcia

Image
It's my pleasure to introduce yet another sport to the Around the Courts blog - volleyball .  A sport I grew up with, courtesy of familial involvement, then kept falling in and out of touch with.  I must admit, prior to last week, I'd not watched a full match of volleyball ever since the Beijing Olympics final when my favourite team of all time, Brazil under the watchful eye of the great Bernardo Rezende, lost to the Team USA failing to win the 2rd consecutive title. Heartbreak to the players and the fans in the country where the sport actually means something. Something, as in, a lot. As losing or winning a match is usually a team effort, it would be pointless trying to blame the loss on one player. At the same time, it was extremely difficult not to notice that one very significant piece to the team was missing from the Olympic squad. His name's Ricardo Garcia. He's a setter. And the the time, he was considered the best in the world at that position. The glar...

All the Around the Courts readers who enjoy the Ana fashion updates, here's a pretty sweet video put together by adidas. Lovely doesn't even begin to describe it.

Ana Ivanovic's French Open 2012 Dress

Ana Ivanovic might have already lost in this year's Roland Garros tournament but her adidas adiZero dress remains my favourite of the Spring so far. This tennis dress has a FORMOTION® design for an active fit, CLIMACOOL® ventilation, and stylish details for a more feminine look. Comes with matching sports bra and shorts. CLIMACOOL: A combination of performance fabrics, open mesh and ventilation channels keeps cool air flowing in and heat and sweat flowing out.
